When they watch, let them see glory

Daniel 3:8-12
8 At this time some astrologers came forward and maliciously accused the Jews, 9 saying to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, may you live forever! 10 You, O king, have issued a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the golden statue, 11 and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into the blazing fiery furnace. 12 But there are some Jews you have appointed to manage the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—who have ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
Have you ever felt like someone was waiting for you to mess up? Maybe it was a teacher who doubted you or a classmate who envied your grades. It is an uncomfortable feeling. In Daniel 3, the Chaldeans watched Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego like hawks. They were not watching to learn. They were watching to accuse. They wanted to catch them breaking the rules. But here is the amazing thing: the only thing they could catch them doing was being faithful to God. They could not catch them stealing. They could not catch them being lazy. They could not catch them being incompetent. They had to attack their faith because their work was clean. This is a powerful challenge for us. As students pursuing success, we should live with such excellence that our critics have nothing valid to say about our character. If people accuse you, let it be because you are honest, hardworking, and committed to Jesus. Never let the accusation be laziness or dishonesty. When you are under the microscope, do not panic. Zoom in. Pay attention to details. Cross every t and dot every i. Excellence is one of the best defenses against slander. When you produce high-quality work, it helps silence critics. Your results can argue your case for you. So let them watch. Let them see a student who is diligent, respectful, and unshakable. Let them see the glory of God in your academic life.

Think of someone in your life who may be critical of you. Do something kind for that person today, or make sure your next assignment is done with such care that even a critic would be impressed.

Lord, I know eyes are on me. Let my life bring You glory. Help me walk in such integrity that even my enemies must respect the God I serve.
