The "even if" grade

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, furious with rage, summoned Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden statue I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the statue I have made, very good. But if you refuse to worship, you will be thrown at once into the blazing fiery furnace. Then what god will be able to deliver you from my hands?” 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If the God whom we serve exists, then He is able to deliver us from the blazing fiery furnace and from your hand, O king. 18 But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
We all want the A. We all want the scholarship. We all want the acceptance letter. We pray for these things. We fast for these things. And that is good. God wants us to bring our desires to Him. We should pray, "God, deliver me from this difficult semester. God, give me success." But there is a level of faith that goes deeper than "God, give me." It is the faith that says, "God, even if You do not." Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had this faith. They looked the king in the eye and said, "Our God is able to save us. But even if He does not, we will not bow." This is the secret weapon of successful students. Why? Because it removes the fear of failure. If you are terrified of failing, you will be anxious. You may freeze during tests. You may even be tempted to cheat. But if you can say, "God, I worked hard. I trust You for an A. But even if I get a C, I know You are good, I know I have a future, and I will not compromise my integrity," then fear begins to lose its grip. When fear loses its grip, your mind works better. You think more clearly. You write better. Ironically, the even-if attitude often leads to the success you were willing to surrender. It shows God that you trust the Giver more than the gift. It shows that your identity is secure in Christ, not in your transcript. Today, look at your biggest academic stressor. Tell God, "I believe You can handle this. But even if it does not go my way, I am staying with You." That is the heart of unstoppable faith.
Action Point
Write down your biggest academic fear, such as failing chemistry. Then write "But if not..." beside it. List three truths about God that remain true even if that fear happens. For example: "God still loves me," "God has a plan," and "My value is not in chemistry."
Prayer Point
Father, I release my demand for specific outcomes. I choose to trust Your character. Give me grace to accept Your will, whatever it looks like, and strength to never compromise.
