The ghost of the student you could have been
3 The prudent see danger and take cover, but the simple keep going and suffer the consequences.
Proverbs 22:3Bible Reading
Proverbs 5:7-14
7 So now, my sons, listen to me, and do not turn aside from the words of my mouth. 8 Keep your path far from her; do not go near the door of her house, 9 lest you concede your vigor to others, and your years to one who is cruel; 10 lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich the house of a foreigner. 11 At the end of your life you will groan when your flesh and your body are spent, 12 and you will say, “How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof! 13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ear to my mentors. 14 I am on the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly.”
There is a version of you in the future. He is holding a diploma. He is smiling. He has a job offer. He is grateful. But there is another version of you. He is standing outside the school. His pockets are empty. His heart is heavy with “what ifs.” He is groaning. Which one will you meet? Solomon gives us a sobering glimpse of the failed student. This person was not evil. He was careless. He drifted. He ignored the warnings. He hated discipline. Now his strength is gone. His money is gone. His honor is gone. This is heavy. But it is written in love. God shows us the crash so we will slow down. He shows us the cliff so we will turn the wheel. You have the power, right now, to erase the failed student from your future. You can choose discipline today. You can listen to your teachers today. You can stay far from the distractions that drain you. Every time you open your book, you are killing regret. Every time you focus, you are securing your honor.

Prayer Point
Lord, save me from regret. I do not want to groan at the end of my journey. I choose the pain of discipline today over the pain of failure tomorrow. Help me value my time and potential. In Jesus’ name.
Reflection Point
What habit do I have right now that, if I do not stop, could lead to regret in five years?
