When the experts fail
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
1 Corinthians 1:20Bible Reading
Daniel 4:4-9
4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and flourishing in my palace. 5 I had a dream, and it frightened me; while I was in my bed, the images and visions in my mind alarmed me. 6 So I issued a decree that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret the dream for me. 7 When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me. 8 But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream: 9 “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation.
Imagine having unlimited money and a serious problem. You hire the best consultants in the world. You hire the best tutors. You hire the best coaches. Yet they all stand there scratching their heads. They cannot help you. This was Nebuchadnezzar’s reality. He had the “magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners.” They were like the elite scholars of Babylon. But they were blind to spiritual reality. There will come a time in your academic journey when the textbook is not enough. The lecture is not enough. Another search is not enough. You will hit a wall that human wisdom cannot scale. Do not panic. This is the moment for the Spirit of God. While the experts were confused, Daniel was clear. Why? Because Daniel had a connection to the Revealer of mysteries. Do not rely only on your intellect. It is a good tool, but a poor god. Sharpen your mind, yes. But deepen your spirit. When the experts fail, your relationship with God will succeed.
Action Point
Identify one subject or problem that is confusing you. Before you search for another explanation, spend five minutes praying in the Spirit about it. Then study with focus.
Prayer Point
Holy Spirit, You are the Spirit of truth. Guide me into all truth. When the world is confused, give me clarity.
Reflection Point
Am I building my academic foundation on sand (worldly wisdom) or on the Rock (God’s truth)?
