We tend to think of the end as something that simply happens to us. But Proverbs 5 teaches us that we help build our own endings. You are building your graduation day right now, brick by brick, choice by choice. Solomon shows us two endings. One ends in a groan—a cry of, “I should have listened! I should have worked!” The other ends in a fountain—a life of overflowing resources, honor, and joy. The difference is not luck. The difference is distance and depth. The wise student keeps distance from distraction (v. 8) and pursues depth in their own work (v. 15). The foolish student gets close to the edge and stays shallow. God is watching the construction site. He sees every brick you lay. He sees whether you are using the straw of laziness or the stone of discipline. Do not build a life that collapses. Do not build a degree on online shortcuts and borrowed work. Build it on the rock of your own effort and God’s truth. The cords of discipline may be hard to weave, but they will pull you upward. The cords of sin may be easy to weave, but they will tie you down. Choose your cords. Choose your end.
Action Point
Identify one leak in your academic life—a place where you are losing time or integrity. Patch it today. Commit to three days of focused attention in that area.

Master Builder, help me build wisely. I do not want to arrive at the end of this semester with regret. Give me the foresight to see the end from the beginning. Give me the strength to say “no” to smooth distractions and “yes” to hard work. I want to drink from a cistern of excellence. In Jesus’ name.
