The invisible proctor

21 For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and the LORD examines all his paths. 22 The iniquities of a wicked man entrap him; the cords of his sin entangle him. 23 He dies for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.
Have you ever worked harder because the teacher was standing behind your desk? We all have. We straighten up. We focus. We write more carefully. The presence of authority changes our performance. Solomon gives us a holy reminder: the Teacher is always near. “For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and the LORD examines all his paths.” This is not meant to frighten you into paranoia. It is meant to call you to greatness. You are working for an audience of One. The King of Kings is watching you take notes. He is watching you write that code. He is watching you read that history book. Does your work honor His presence? Or are you weaving cords of laziness under the desk? The cords are real. Every time you choose the easy way, you wrap another loop around your hands. Soon, you cannot move. You cannot work. You die for lack of discipline. But when you practice the presence of God, you cut the cords. You walk free. You study with dignity. You excel because you know Who is watching.
Action Point
Place an empty chair near your desk. Imagine Jesus is sitting there as you study. Explain your work to Him: “Lord, look at this equation.” It may feel unusual, but it can help you practice His presence and renew your focus.
Prayer Point
Lord, You see me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thoughts from afar. Keep me from the cords of sin. Let my academic life be transparent and pleasing in Your sight. Help me to be disciplined for Your glory. In Jesus’ name.
