Guard the altar before you chase the crown

Daniel 8:11 reminds us that pride is never harmless. It wants more room. It wants the heart. It wants the throne. It wants to remove the daily things that keep us near God. A student may think, "I am too busy to pray." Another may think, "I must study so hard that I have no time to rest." Another may think, "I am doing well, so I do not need accountability." These thoughts can sound practical. Yet they can slowly remove the daily altar. God does not call you to weak effort. He calls you to holy effort. He wants your mind sharp. He wants your hands diligent. He wants your schedule ordered. But He also wants your heart near Him. Do not chase the crown while losing the altar. Do not chase excellence while losing worship. Put God first. Then study hard. Let devotion become the root of discipline.

Choose one daily altar habit today. It may be 10 minutes of prayer. It may be one chapter of Scripture. It may be a short evening review with thanksgiving. Keep it simple. Keep it sincere. Keep it daily.
