Empty enough to be filled
9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9Bible Reading
Daniel 10:17
17 How can I, your servant, speak with you, my lord? Now I have no strength, nor is any breath left in me.”
There is a dangerous myth in academic circles: the myth of the invincible student. We may feel pressured to always understand the material, always stay on top of the workload, and never show fatigue. But this standard is impossible. Even Daniel, a man of great wisdom and spiritual depth, reached the end of his strength. He confessed that no strength remained in him and that no breath was left in him. Daniel did not fake confidence. He did not pretend to be strong. He admitted his emptiness. This is an important lesson for your academic life. When the equation makes no sense, when the essay prompt leaves you blank, or when the reading load feels impossible, do not pretend you are fine. Admit your need before God. An empty cup can be filled. Your admission of weakness is not failure. It is often the beginning of grace. God's strength meets us where our strength runs out.
