The best pillow is a clear conscience

33 But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”

Proverbs 1:33

Bible Reading

Proverbs 1:28-33

28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will earnestly seek me, but will not find me. 29 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD. 30 They accepted none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof. 31 So they will eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 32 For the waywardness of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. 33 But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”

There is a specific kind of sleep that comes to the diligent student. It is the sleep of the one who turned in the paper on time. It is the sleep of the one who studied every chapter. Solomon calls this dwelling in safety and being "secure from the fear of evil." Compare that to the sleep of the slacker. They toss and turn. They dream of failing. They wake up in a panic. Why? Because they are eating "the fruit of their own way." God wants you to have the good sleep. He wants you to know the peace that passes understanding. But that peace is the fruit of listening. "Whoever listens to me will dwell in safety." Listening is not passive. It is active. It means doing what Wisdom says when Wisdom says it. Do you want peace this semester? Do the work. Listen to the syllabus. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Then, when you lay your head down, you can rest in the safety of God's keeping.

Action Point

What is the one task keeping you from being secure from fear? Do it today. Finish it. Claim your peace.

Prayer Point

Lord, I want to dwell in safety. I surrender my stubbornness. I choose to listen to Your voice and do my work. Grant me Your peace. Amen.

Reflection Point

Is my current anxiety a result of my procrastination? How can I trade my panic for God's peace?
