The anti-resume: What not to be

Proverbs 6:16-19

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

Bible Reading

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that run swiftly to evil, 19 a false witness who gives false testimony, and one who stirs up discord among brothers.

We spend a lot of time building our resumes. We list our skills, awards, and GPA. But God has a list too. It is a list of things He hates. It is the anti- resume: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that hurt others, a heart that plans wickedness, feet that run to trouble, a false witness, and a person who breaks up friendships. If God were hiring you for a mission, would He find these things on your resume? As students, we can fall into these traps. We get arrogant when we get an A. We lie when we miss a deadline. We gossip about a rival. We create drama because we are bored. But these things grieve God. They block His blessing. You cannot be an excellent student with a haughty spirit. You cannot be a faithful scholar with a lying tongue. True excellence is character. It is having eyes that see others with love. It is having a tongue that speaks truth. It is having feet that run to do good. Tear up the antiresume. Write a new one with the ink of integrity.

Action Point

Do a social audit. Ask a trusted friend, “Do I ever come across as arrogant or divisive?” Listen without defending yourself. Repent and change.

Prayer Point

Lord, I want to delight You, not grieve You. Remove these six and seven things from my life. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Let my character be my greatest credential. In Jesus’ name.

Reflection Point

Is there any abomination hiding in my study habits or relationships?
