The flashlight in the forest

Proverbs 6:20-23

11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

Psalm 119:11

Bible Reading

Proverbs 6:20-23

20 My son, keep your father’s commandment, and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 21 Bind them always upon your heart; tie them around your neck. 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. 23 For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life,

Imagine trying to hike through a dense forest at midnight without a light. You would trip over roots. You would fall into pits. You would get lost. University can feel like a dark forest. There are complex subjects, hard decisions about the future, and moral traps everywhere. Trying to navigate this alone is foolish. God says, “Here is a lamp.” His commandment is the flashlight. When you turn it on, you see the root before you trip. You see the path clearly. But notice what Solomon says: “Bind them on your heart.” You do not leave the flashlight in the drawer. You strap it to your chest. You wear it. It becomes part of you. When you sleep, the light guards you. When you wake, the light greets you. When you walk to class, the light shows you where to step. Do not study in the dark. Do not make career decisions in the dark. Turn on the lamp. Read the Word. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Walk in the light, and you will reach your destination without stumbling.

Action Point

Find a life verse for your academic journey. Write it on a card. Tape it to your mirror. Read it every morning and every night for a week. Bind it to your mind.

Prayer Point

Father, You are my Light. I refuse to walk in darkness. Illuminate my studies. Illuminate my future. Speak to me when I wake. Guard me when I sleep. I trust Your guidance above my own understanding. In Jesus’ name.

Reflection Point

Am I making decisions based only on what I can see with my natural eyes, or on what the lamp of the Word reveals?
