Stay humble when you are strong
18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 16:18Bible Reading
Daniel 8:4
4 I saw the ram charging toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against him, and there was no deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.
The ram in Daniel's vision was powerful. No animal could stand against him, and there was no deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great. But if we keep reading, we see that his destruction is coming quickly. This is a sobering picture of academic pride. When you start getting excellent grades, a subtle shift can happen in your heart. You may begin to think you do not need to study as hard. You may think you are smarter than your teachers. You may start doing as you please. You ignore the syllabus. You skip the readings. This is the trap of pride. It feels like power, but it is the edge of a cliff. God gives intelligence, but He calls us to humility. If you want to sustain academic excellence, stay humble. Never think you have arrived. Never look down on a struggling classmate. Keep doing the hard work. Give the glory to God. Humility is the shield that protects your academic success.
Action Point
Evaluate your attitude toward your easiest class. Have you stopped trying because you think you know it all? Repent of any academic pride today. Commit to studying for that easy class with the same diligence you use for your hardest class.
Prayer Point
Lord, search my heart today. If there is any arrogance in me about my intelligence or my grades, please root it out. Keep me grounded. Help me handle academic success with humility and gratitude.
Reflection Point
Do I secretly feel superior to students who get lower grades than me? How can I use my academic strengths to serve others instead of magnifying myself?
