What makes you smile?
6 Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.
1 Corinthians 13:6Bible Reading
Proverbs 2:14
14 from those who enjoy doing evil and rejoice in the twistedness of evil,
There is a strange phenomenon in school. Sometimes the class clown does something disrespectful, and everyone laughs. Sometimes someone tells a story about getting blackout drunk, and everyone cheers. Proverbs 2:14 describes people who enjoy doing evil and rejoice in the twistedness of evil. That is a dangerous place to be. When you start finding joy in failure, rebellion, or twisted truth, your internal compass is broken. You are steering toward the rocks and laughing about it. God wants you to have joy. But He wants you to have real joy. The joy of solving a hard equation. The joy of writing a sentence that sings. The joy of helping a friend pass a test. The joy of integrity. Check your joy today. If you are laughing at things that break God's heart, stop. Ask God to give you a new source of delight.
Action Point
Today, refuse to laugh at a joke that is crude, hurtful, or celebrates sin. Stay silent. Let your silence be a witness.
Prayer Point
Lord, renew my mind. Help me to love what You love and hate what You hate. Give me the joy of holiness.
Reflection Point
Is my definition of "fun" compatible with my definition of "success"?
