The great exchange

Proverbs 7

36 What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

Mark 8:36

Bible Reading

Proverbs 7:1

1 My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.

The tragedy of Proverbs 7 is the tragedy of a bad exchange. The young man exchanged his life, honor, and strength for fair speech and a night of false comfort. In economics, this is a bankruptcy deal. Yet as students, we make this deal often. We exchange the long-term glory of a completed degree for the short-term pleasure of a wasted weekend. We exchange the respect of our peers for the cheap thrill of being the class clown. We exchange the well done of the Father for the likes of strangers. Stop the bad exchange. Your potential is too expensive to sell cheaply. God has purchased you with the blood of Christ. Do not sell yourself to the slavery of mediocrity. Value your mind. Value your time. Value your calling.

Action Point

Identify one bad exchange you make regularly, such as trading sleep for scrolling. Today, reverse the trade. Trade scrolling for sleep. Trade TV for study.

Prayer Point

Lord, teach me the value of my soul and my time. Let me not sell my birthright for a bowl of stew. Help me make wise investments with the life You have given me. In Jesus’ name.

Reflection Point

What am I selling my future for right now? Is the price worth it? Proverbs chapter 8 Day 240-276 • Bible reading coverage: Proverbs 8:1-36 • 37 devotional entries Proverbs chapter 8 Day 240-276 • 37 devotional entries
