Day 235 August 23, 2026 Past Day

Get out of the boat (and the bed)

Proverbs 7:16-17

27 No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

1 Corinthians 9:27

Bible Reading

Proverbs 7:16-17

16 I have decked my bed with coverings, with colored linen from Egypt. 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, with aloes, and with cinnamon.

The bed described in Proverbs 7 sounds inviting. It is soft, beautiful, and fragrant. Who would not want to lie there? But that is the point. It is a trap designed to immobilize. In your academic life, comfort is often the enemy of progress. If you wait until you feel like studying, you may never study. If you wait until the conditions are perfect, you will fail. You must learn to discipline your body and bring it into subjection. You must learn to say to your flesh, “We are not resting now. We are working.” The bed of ease leads to the grave of potential. The chair of discipline leads to the throne of success.

Action Point

Do something uncomfortable today. Study standing up. Read out loud. Break the cycle of comfort.

Prayer Point

Lord, save me from the love of ease. Give me the spirit of a warrior who does not get entangled in the affairs of this life. In Jesus’ name.

Reflection Point

Am I choosing comfort over calling?
