The war on your rest

Daniel 7:23-25

31 But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Bible Reading

Daniel 7:23-25

23 This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, different from all the other kingdoms, and it will devour the whole earth, trample it down, and crush it. 24 And the ten horns are ten kings who will rise from this kingdom. After them another king, different from the earlier ones, will rise and subdue three kings. 25 He will speak out against the Most High and oppress the saints of the Most High, intending to change the appointed times and laws; and the saints will be given into his hand for a time, and times, and half a time.

The enemy does not always come through obvious temptation. Sometimes, he comes through a packed schedule. He comes through endless notifications. He comes through the pressure to say “yes” to everything. His goal is to wear you down. Daniel 7 says the horn would oppress the saints of the Most High. If the enemy cannot pull you into open sin, he may try to make you too busy to pray, study well, or love people well. The exhausted student is a vulnerable student. But Daniel exposes the strategy. Once you see it, you can stop it. You can say, “No.” You can guard your sleep. You can protect holy rest. Excellence requires energy. You cannot pour from an empty cup. To be a strong student, you must also be a rested student. Sometimes, the wise spiritual decision is to rest.

Action Point

Look at your schedule for the next week. Cancel one nonessential activity. Use that time to sleep or do something that restores your soul.

Prayer Point

Lord, I resist the pull of burnout. I refuse to be worn down. I receive Your promise of renewed strength. Teach me the discipline of rest.

Reflection Point

Is my busyness a sign of importance, or could it be weakening my obedience, peace, and focus?
