12 You have carried out the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us a great disaster. For under all of heaven, nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem.
There are moments in our academic journey that break our hearts. You study for weeks, give your best, and still fail the class. Or perhaps you made a serious mistake, partied too much, and lost your scholarship. It feels like your world has collapsed. Daniel looked at Jerusalem and saw smoke and rubble. He said, “Nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem.” He felt the crushing weight of disaster. When you look at a failed transcript, you may feel that same weight. You may think, “I am the worst student in the world. I can never recover from this.” But listen carefully: God is a master builder. He specializes in rebuilding ruins. The disaster you are facing is not the end of your book; it is the end of a difficult chapter. God can use discipline to wake us up, clear away a broken foundation, and rebuild a stronger life. Do not run from the rubble. Face the facts. Cry your tears. Then pick up a brick. Open a book. Email a tutor. Start rebuilding. The righteous student may fall, but by God’s grace, that student can rise again.
