Humility for brilliant minds

Daniel 11:36-39
36 Then the king will do as he pleases and will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and he will speak monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished. 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers, nor for the one desired by women, nor for any other god, because he will magnify himself above them all. 38 And in their place, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches. 39 He will attack the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing the land for a price.
God loves you, and He is the giver of every brain cell in your head. When you study hard and earn excellent grades, it is easy to start trusting your own brilliance. The world will clap for you and tell you that human intellect is the highest power in the universe. In Daniel 11, a terrifying king became so arrogant that he exalted and magnified himself above every god and spoke against the God of gods. Instead of honoring the true Lord, he honored a “god of fortresses”—a god of raw power, security, and prestige. As a student, be careful not to fall into this trap. Do not make an idol of your GPA, your university’s reputation, or your intelligence. If you rely only on your mental fortress, academic pressure can eventually crush you. But if you humbly submit your mind to Jesus Christ, He will give you true wisdom. A brilliant mind wrapped in humility is powerful on a university campus. Remember today that you are not self-made. Every academic victory is a gift of grace from your Heavenly Father.

Take a moment to look at your most recent strong grade or academic achievement. Speak out loud and say, “Lord Jesus, I redirect all the glory for this achievement back to You. You are the source of all my wisdom.”
Prayer Point
Heavenly Father, please protect me from the subtle poison of intellectual pride. Do not let me worship the false god of academic prestige. Keep my heart humble, teachable, and dependent on Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
