The insomnia cure
2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.
Psalm 127:2Bible Reading
Proverbs 3:21-26
21 My son, do not lose sight of this: Preserve sound judgment and discernment. 22 They will be life to your soul and adornment to your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you rest, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not fear sudden danger or the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from the snare.
It is 2:00 AM. Your textbook is open. Your eyes are burning. Your heart is racing. “If I do not pass this test...” “If I do not get this internship...” Sudden fear has gripped you. Proverbs 3 has a prescription for you. It is called confidence in the LORD. Solomon tells us that when we preserve sound judgment and discernment, our sleep can be sweet. Why? Because we know who is in charge. When you realize God is keeping your foot, you do not have to stare at your feet all night. You can close your eyes. When you realize God is your confidence, you do not have to rely on your own shaky strength. You can rest. The wise student knows that sleep in God’s peace is better than anxious study without trust. Go to bed. Trust God. He is working the night shift for you.
