Don't drop the ball

2 Timothy 1:13

Bible Reading

Proverbs 4:2

2 For I give you sound teaching; do not abandon my directive.

Imagine a relay race. The runner holds the baton. It is precious. It is sound teaching. The runner must not drop it. Solomon is passing the baton to you. He says, “I give you sound teaching; do not abandon my directive.” Your professors are passing the baton. Your textbooks are passing the baton. The question is, will you hold it tight? Or will you drop it? Dropping it looks like skipping class. It looks like ignoring the reading. It looks like doing the bare minimum. Holding it looks like engagement. It looks like curiosity. It looks like finishing what you started. The instruction you receive today is the foundation for your calling tomorrow. Do not despise the theories. Do not mock the basics. They are the building blocks of your future. God is a God of knowledge. He delights when His children value truth. When you study well, you honor Him. You are saying, “Lord, I value the mind You gave me, and I value the truth You created.”

Action Point

Identify one subject you have been neglecting or abandoning. Spend 30 minutes today focused only on that subject. Read the core text. Reengage with the framework of that course.

Prayer Point

Father, I receive the instruction You have placed in my path. I will not let go of wisdom. I will not drop the baton. Give me the tenacity to study deeply and the wisdom to apply what I learn. Amen.

Reflection Point

What academic rule or habit have I abandoned that I need to pick back up? Is it reviewing notes daily? Is it reading ahead?
