The grip of greatness
11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11Bible Reading
Proverbs 4:4
4 he taught me and said, “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands and you will live.
Have you ever tried to hold water in your hands? If your fingers are loose, it slips away. Knowledge can be like that water. David taught Solomon, “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands and you will live.” You must tighten your grip. You must decide this instruction is not leaving you. Many students study only to pass the Friday quiz. By Monday, the information is gone. That is a waste. True excellence includes retention. It is building a library in your mind that you can access later. Imagine if a doctor forgot anatomy after the exam. You would not want that doctor to operate on you. You are training for real life. The formulas, dates, and theories are tools for your future. Grip them tightly. Keep the commands and live. Your future work depends on what you keep today. Do not be a leaky vessel. Be a vault of wisdom.
Action Point
Create a retention deck. Take the five most important concepts from this week’s classes. Write them on index cards or flashcards. Review them three times today, then review them once a week for the rest of the semester.
Prayer Point
Father, I ask for a retentive mind. Let Your wisdom and my studies take root in me. I reject forgetfulness. I receive the power of a sound mind. I will keep the truth, and I will succeed. Amen.
Reflection Point
Why do I forget? Is it because I do not care, or because I do not review? How can I value this subject more?
