The marathon mindset

Proverbs 4:10

16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

Psalm 91:16

Bible Reading

Proverbs 4:10

10 Listen, my son, and receive my words, and the years of your life will be many.

College is not a sprint. A career is not a sprint. It is a marathon. Solomon says, “Listen, my son, and receive my words, and the years of your life will be many.” He is talking about pacing. He is talking about endurance. Many brilliant students flame out because they lack the wisdom of balance. They think they can cheat sleep. They think they can live on caffeine and anxiety. But the body keeps the score. True academic excellence includes caring for the vessel—your body and mind. You cannot serve well if you are exhausted. Wisdom says, “Go to bed.” Wisdom says, “Eat a vegetable.” Wisdom says, “Take a Sabbath.” When you listen to these simple sayings, you lengthen your usefulness. You make sure you will be around to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Do not sacrifice your life for a grade. Manage your life so you can pursue the grade faithfully.

Action Point

Set a clear lights-out time for tonight. No screens. No books. Allow your brain to rest and repair. Trust that a rested mind will perform better tomorrow.

Prayer Point

Father, I surrender my anxiety. I trust You with my time. I will rest. I will care for the temple You gave me. Give me a long, healthy, and productive life of learning. Amen.

Reflection Point

Is my current pace sustainable for the next four years? If not, what must change?
