The main thing

Proverbs 4:7

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33

Bible Reading

Proverbs 4:7

7 Wisdom is supreme; so acquire wisdom. And whatever you may acquire, gain understanding.

A familiar leadership maxim says, “Keep the main thing the main thing.” Solomon said it first in another way: “Wisdom is supreme.” In the whirlwind of student life—clubs, sports, parties, and relationships—it is easy to lose the plot. You are there to learn. You are there to build a mind that can serve, solve, and create. That is the main thing. Everything else is a side dish. Do not fill up on appetizers and miss the main course. If you graduate with many friends but no skills, you have missed something essential. But if you graduate with deep understanding, you will have something to offer. Recenter your life today. Look at your schedule. Does it reflect the main thing? If not, adjust it. Be firm with your priorities. Use your resources—money, time, and energy—to pursue what matters most: understanding.

Action Point

Write “Wisdom is supreme” on a sticky note. Put it on your laptop screen. Every time you open your computer, ask yourself, “Is what I am about to do adding to my wisdom or distracting from it?”

Prayer Point

Lord, realign my priorities. I confess that I have been distracted by minor things. I return to the center. I choose wisdom. I choose excellence. I choose to become a master of my craft for Your glory. Amen.

Reflection Point

What secondary thing is taking up principal time in my life? How can I reduce it?
