Daniel 8:23-25
23 In the latter part of their reign, when the rebellion has reached its full measure, an insolent king, skilled in intrigue, will come to the throne. 24 His power will be great, but it will not be his own. He will cause terrible destruction and succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy the mighty men along with the holy people. 25 Through his craft and by his hand, he will cause deceit to prosper, and in his own mind he will make himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be broken off, but not by human hands.
Gabriel describes a frightening king. He is bold, arrogant, and skilled in deception. But the most interesting thing about him is his strength: "His power will be great, but it will not be his own." He uses borrowed power to achieve his goals. He uses deceit to prosper. This is a serious temptation in school. You may be tempted to use power that is not your own. You may be tempted to copy a friend's lab report. You may be tempted to use unauthorized tools to generate work you should do yourself. It can look like strength. It can look like success. You may even get the grade without doing the work. But it is a trap. You would be building your future on a counterfeit foundation. When you step into your career, you will not have the intellectual strength you need, because you never built it honestly. God, the Prince of princes, will not bless a lie. Counterfeit success will eventually break. Reject the shortcut. Embrace the honest labor of true learning. When you earn your grades through diligent work and God's grace, your strength will be real, and your success will be clean.
