Go about the king’s business
9 Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9Bible Reading
Daniel 8:26-27
26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been spoken is true. Now you must seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.” 27 I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was confounded by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
Daniel has just experienced a profound, world-shaking revelation. It is so heavy that it leaves him exhausted and ill for days. He is deeply confused by what he saw. He does not have all the answers. If the chapter ended there, it would feel like defeat. But look at what Daniel does next: "Then I got up and went about the king’s business." This is true resilience. As a student, you will have days when pressure feels crushing. You may stare at a textbook until your head aches. You may feel physically worn out and confused by a subject. In those moments, it is right to rest. It is right to recover. But you must not stay in bed forever. Eventually, you must get up and return to your academic business. You cannot wait until you feel perfect before you study. You cannot wait until you understand everything before you go to class. Show up tired if you must. Show up confused if you must. When you honor God by doing your daily duty, He can meet you with strength, clarity, and grace for the next step.
Action Point
Is there a class you have been avoiding because it makes you feel confused or exhausted? Commit to attending the very next lecture. Show up, take notes, and do the work, regardless of how you feel.
Prayer Point
Lord, thank You that You understand my physical and mental exhaustion. Please give me the steady grit of Daniel. When I am tired and confused, give me strength to rise and faithfully complete my academic duties. I dedicate my studies to You as the ultimate King’s business.
Reflection Point
Do I let my feelings dictate my academic actions? How can I develop the discipline to go about the king’s business even when I feel emotionally or intellectually drained?
