In movies, there is often a trapdoor. The hero steps on a rug, and suddenly —whoosh—they fall into a dungeon. Proverbs 2:18 warns us that the house of the forbidden woman—sin, distraction, and folly—is built on a trapdoor. "Her house sinks down to death." It does not look like a trap. It looks like a party. It looks like freedom. But the moment you step in, the floor gives way. Solomon warns that those who go to her do not return to the paths of life. This is a sobering warning for every student. Some paths take you where you never wanted to go and keep you longer than you wanted to stay. Addiction is a trapdoor. Cheating is a trapdoor. Sexual immorality is a trapdoor. God loves you enough to put up a danger sign. He is not trying to ruin your joy. He is trying to save your life. He wants you to stay on the solid ground of the paths of life. Do not test the floorboards of sin. Stay on the Rock.
