The delicate art of focus
22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
Matthew 6:22Bible Reading
Proverbs 7:2
2 Keep my commandments and live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
The eye is a miracle. It captures light. It interprets the world. But it is vulnerable. A tiny grain of sand can incapacitate a strong person if it gets in their eye. Solomon compares wisdom to this. Your academic focus is powerful, but it is delicate. A bad relationship can ruin it. Lack of sleep can blur it. Procrastination can irritate it. You must be defensive. You must wear safety goggles. Those goggles are your boundaries. When you say “no” to a party so you can study, you are protecting your eye. When you turn off your phone, you are shielding your vision.
